Why 2027 Might Be the Year to Book Your Cruise Earlier Than You Think

If a cruise is somewhere in your plans for 2027, you may be thinking, I have plenty of time.

And technically, you do.

But having time and having options are two very different things.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear about cruising is that waiting until closer to the sailing date will automatically result in a better deal. Sometimes last-minute opportunities do appear, but waiting can also mean choosing from whatever cabins, locations and itineraries are left.

For families, groups and celebration travelers, that can make a big difference.

Booking Early Isn’t Just About Price

When I encourage clients to start planning early, I’m not simply trying to get them booked sooner.

I’m trying to give them choices.

Booking earlier can mean having more options when it comes to:

• Cabin categories
• Cabin locations
• Connecting or nearby rooms
• Popular sailing dates
• Departure ports
• Itineraries
• Payment time

For a couple who only needs one cabin, limited availability may be manageable.

For a family needing multiple rooms or a group trying to keep several households reasonably close together it can become much more complicated.

Families Have Different Cruise Needs 

This is especially important for the families I work with.

A multigenerational family may need a balcony cabin for Grandma and Grandpa, connecting cabins for parents and children, and another cabin nearby for adult relatives.

A family traveling with young children may care about proximity to elevators, children’s programming or certain areas of the ship.

Those details matter.

The cruise itself may be the same, but how well the cruise works for your family can depend heavily on the planning.

More Time Can Make the Vacation Easier to Budget

Another advantage of planning ahead is simply having more time.

A vacation that feels overwhelming when you’re trying to pay for it in a few months may feel much more manageable when you have significantly longer to prepare.

Think About the Milestones Coming in 2027

Before you decide that 2027 is “too far away,” look at your family’s calendar.

Is someone graduating?

Celebrating a milestone birthday?

Getting married?

Having an anniversary?

Planning a family reunion?

Or maybe your family simply hasn’t taken a real vacation together in a while.

Those occasions don’t suddenly appear. We usually know they’re coming.

Planning early gives you an opportunity to turn those milestones into something everyone can look forward to.

And Then There Are Group Cruises

If several households are traveling together, I recommend beginning the conversation even earlier.

That doesn’t mean everyone has to make every decision immediately.

It means establishing the basics:

When are we traveling? Where would we like to go? How long can everyone be away? What type of experience are we looking for?

Once those pieces come together, the rest becomes much easier.
