How I Built a Travel Business as a Busy Mom of 5 (and How You Can Too)
When I started my travel business, life wasn’t easy. I was still teaching in public school, balancing lesson plans with motherhood, and trying to heal from deep personal loss. I had just welcomed my daughter after the heartbreak of losing a baby and my grandmother within the same season of life.
I didn’t come to this with a blank slate—I had run a wellness business before, one I poured myself into, but it had fallen on deaf ears. That experience left me discouraged, but it also planted seeds of resilience and drive.
When travel entered my life, I saw a way forward. I had a small office, a laptop, and a dream—not just for myself, but for my family. Today, Royally Blended Travel helps other families make unforgettable memories—and if I could do it, so can you.
My Why
For me, this business was never just about money. It was about:
-
Healing and Hope – Turning grief into purpose by helping others celebrate life.
-
Financial Freedom – Creating another stream of income so I didn’t have to rely solely on teaching.
-
More Time With My Children – I wanted to be there for football games, band practices, and family milestones—not always racing the clock.
-
Legacy – Building something that would outlast me and provide for my family.
How I Balanced Business, Teaching, and Family
Balancing a full-time teaching job, motherhood, and a growing travel business wasn’t simple—but it was possible.
-
Early Mornings and Late Nights – I worked before the school day started and after bedtime, turning quiet hours into productive ones.
-
Office Hours with a Twist – My small home office became a hub where I switched between grading papers and planning vacations.
-
My Phone Was My Second Desk – Whether at football practice, band rehearsal, or waiting in the pickup line, I used my phone to answer emails, post updates, and check itineraries.
-
Family First, Always – I leaned on my “why” when things felt overwhelming. Every booking meant more freedom and flexibility for us.
Keys to My Success
✨ Education
I committed to supplier trainings, certifications, and learning the business inside out. Every bit of knowledge built my confidence.
✨ Networking
I shared my story—teaching mom turned travel planner—on social media and in my community. That authenticity connected me with clients who valued my heart as much as my services.
✨ Customer Care
I treated every client like family because I know firsthand how much vacations mean. For some, it’s healing; for others, it’s legacy. My job was to take away stress and deliver joy.
Your Turn: Start Where You Are
You don’t have to wait for the “perfect moment” to start. I started in the middle of teaching, mothering, grieving, and rebuilding. If you have a laptop, a phone, and a heart to help people, you can begin too.
Your journey doesn’t need to look like mine—it just needs to start.
